USX FCU Spreads Kindness through CU Kind

At USX FCU, the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People” is something we practice every day. We are committed to helping improve each member’s financial and overall well-being. Giving back and supporting our members, our Preferred Partners, and the communities that we serve is woven into the fabric of USX Federal Credit Union.

This October, we’re joining credit unions across the country to give back to the communities that help make us who we are! We’re excited to participate in CU Kind, an initiative where credit union employees, members, volunteers, and partners come together and do one simple thing: spread kindness.

Throughout October, USX FCU will be delivering food baskets and lunches in our branch communities to thank our first responders.

To promote financial wellness and empower our members with knowledge and resources to make the best financial decisions, we are hosting free educational workshops at our various Preferred Partners. Finally, in celebration of CU Kind AND International Credit Union Day on October 16, we will have complimentary refreshments and giveaways in each of our branches during the week of October 14. Stop into your local USX FCU branch and let us thank YOU for being a part of the USX FCU community.

We encourage you to join us in making an impact and spreading kindness in the community – share your efforts with us on social media by tagging USX Federal Credit Union on Facebook and using the CU Kind hashtag – #cukindnjpa. Join us throughout the month of October as we celebrate and share the credit union difference by making a difference.

Grand Opening of Our Monaca Office

On Thursday August 21st, USX FCU celebrated the Grand Opening of our new office in Monaca. Members were treated to snacks, a fun financial candy bar buffet and several raffles throughout the week.

A special Thank You to the Beaver County Chamber of Commerce for attending our ribbon cutting ceremony. During the ribbon cutting, guests were treated to a delicious lunch provided by the Ambridge Italian Villa food truck!

Wake Up Your Dormant Accounts!

USX Federal Credit Union is required to report Unclaimed Property (escheat) to the Pennsylvania and Ohio Department of Revenue for accounts that have been “dormant” in accordance with state law. An account is considered dormant if there have been no member initiated withdrawals, deposits or transfers made during this period. The best way to be safe is to WAKE UP your account by making a deposit and watching your USX FCU accounts grow. If you are unsure of the status of your account, please contact your local office by calling 1-888-219-3159.

TECH TIPS

A FINE WAY TO GET SCAMMED

In this week’s scam, you receive a text message that appears to be from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The text states that you must pay a traffic fine by a certain date. If you don’t pay on time, your vehicle registration will be suspended, and you’ll lose your driving privileges. Some versions of the message even state that you’ll go to jail or your credit score will be affected if you don’t pay.

The text message contains a link and instructs you to click it so that you can pay the fee. However, these messages aren’t sent by the DMV. They’re actually phishing texts (smishing) sent by cybercriminals. There was never an actual traffic fine or penalty. If you click the link in the text message and make a payment, your money will go directly into the cybercriminals’ pockets!

Follow these tips to avoid falling victim to a smishing scam:

  • Be cautious if you receive text messages claiming you must pay a fine immediately. Scammers often create a sense of urgency to trick you into acting impulsively.
  • The DMV wouldn’t ask you for personal information or money through a text message. If you have questions about paying a fine, contact your local DMV through its official website or phone number.
  • This scam targets users in the United States. However, cybercriminals can use these same tactics to try and trick users anywhere in the world. Always stop and think before you click!

NOTICE OF ELECTION

An election to fill three vacancies on the USX FCU® Board of Directors will be held at the Annual Meeting. The location of the meeting will be announced in the very near future. No nominations will be accepted from the floor.

A Nominating Committee appointed by the Chairman will nominate candidates for election to the Board of Directors. The Nominating Committee will select one nominee for each vacant seat on the Board.

Interested members can become a candidate for Board Membership by requesting a “Petition Packet” from the Nominating Committee. The “Petition Packet” will require the member to obtain the name, address, account number and signature from 1% of the membership as of the previous year-end. The petitioner must submit the complete packet to the Nominating Committee by December 5, 2025. The Nominating Committee will then validate the candidate and verify the information submitted in the “Petition Packet”.

Once the Nominating Committee has approved the candidates, the names of all qualified candidates running for election to the Board will appear on the ballot at the Annual Meeting. A short biography of each candidate will appear in the next quarter’s newsletter. The members present at the Annual Meeting will vote to determine who will serve on the Board of Directors.

Any member of the credit union at least 18 years of age may qualify to serve on the Board of Directors. If you have an interest in serving, you may request a “Petition Packet” by writing to:

Chairperson, Nominating Committee
USX Federal Credit Union
PO Box 1728, Cranberry Twp., PA 16066

Request for “Petition Packet” must be received no later than November 11, 2025.
