Presidents Message

For the last 12 months or so I’ve been informing you of one of the largest projects ever undertaken here at USX Federal Credit Union. If you remember from previous messages, this is our core computer system conversion that will make banking at USX FCU easier, faster, and more efficient. Our team of dedicated employees and business partners continue to work very hard to make our conversion run as smooth as possible later this year.

I wanted to provide some very important information to you to remember and plan for as we get closer to our conversion date. Over the next several months, you will be receiving reminders, notices and updates from USX FCU via our newsletter, separate information mailings and on social media.

Please take note of the following important items you’ll need to remember.

The conversion will affect the availability of certain services during the weekend of October 1, 2022. Also note that the credit union branches will CLOSE at 4:30 pm Friday September 30 and reopen on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 as we finalize the conversion process. Some electronic services may be available with limited access. More information on what services are affected will be coming.

PLEASE NOTE: If you currently use our home banking product or plan on using our “new” online solution, you will need to know your member/account number in order to re-enroll in these services once the conversion is completed. If you need this information, please contact the credit union.

There are a number of items that will not change due to the conversion:

  • Your primary Account Number, Checks, Credit Cards and ATM/Debit Cards (pin numbers will remain the same).
  • Pre-authorized payments and direct deposits.
  • Bill Pay payees and payments.
  • All scheduled ACH, transfers and bill payments will not be affected if they were scheduled prior to conversion.
  • Online banking will still be accessed online or through our new mobile app.

We will be providing you additional information over the next several months. We are working hard to prepare for the conversion so that there is minimal impact to our members. However, when we reopen on October 4, 2022, we are anticipating some minor glitches. We ask that if you do experience any issues with your account(s), please contact us. But most importantly, please be patient. Any account issues will be corrected as quickly as possible.

The results from the 2021 Annual Meeting election of officials are in, and all incumbents were re-elected to serve as volunteer members of the USX FCU Board of Directors for a three-year term. Tech Tips - What Is Skimming?

Though using your credit card at the gas station pump and drive-up ATMs is convenient, the bad guys are targeting these locations. They are using a technology called “card skimmers” to read and record your card information in a matter of seconds. With each card skimmer being able to hold details on about 80 cards, protecting yourself at gas station pumps and ATMs should be a priority now more than ever.

How Does It Work?

Card skimmers are physical devices that cybercriminals attach to the credit card reader of an ATM or gas pump. The card skimmer then reads the magnetic strip on the card to gather your full name, the card number, and the expiration date. Once the skimmer reads your card information, the cybercriminals can then sell your information or use it to gain access to your bank account. These skimmers are designed to fit tightly over the real card reader at the gas station and ATM, making them undetectable if you don’t know what to look for.

How To Avoid Card Skimmers

To protect yourself against card skimmers, follow these helpful tips:

  • Pay with cash. Paying with cash will completely eliminate the risk of coming in contact with a card skimmer.
  • Shake and pull the card reader. If the card reader is loose or looks tampered with, pay inside and report it.
  • Go inside. Paying inside of the gas station or going into the bank will reduce the risk of coming in contact with a card skimmer since it is less likely that the card readers inside have been tampered with.
  • Use mobile payment options if they are available. Use options like Google or Apple Pay to eliminate having to use your card.
  • Download a Skimmer Scanner app. These apps, which are available on both the App Store and Google Play, will warn you about where card skimmers are located in the area.
