2024 has come and gone and 2025 is now before us. Can you believe that it’s 2025 already? It seems that 2024 has flown by. I hope that each of you had a happy and joyous holiday season!
As we enter 2025, we will continue to monitor the many economic variables in the U.S. economy. We anticipate interest rates to continue their steady decline as inflation rates remain near the Federal Reserve targets; however, we recognize that some goods and services still have high prices associated with them. Lower interest rates will be a welcome relief to us here at the credit union as well as for all of our members looking to borrow in 2025.
While we are pleased to announce that one of our branch projects was completed in 2024, two others will continue in the new year for us here at the credit union. We recently celebrated our Grand Opening at our “new” Greensburg Office. We are very proud and excited about our new location within Westmoreland Hospital, which is part of the Independence Health System. The new office is right off the main lobby, near the elevators. We invite all of our members, especially our members in and near the Greensburg community, to stop by and check it out.
The other two projects we continue to work on in 2025 are a new office in Monroeville, PA and relocating our Monaca, PA office. We anticipate construction on our new location at 2525 Monroeville Blvd. to begin in the first quarter of 2025. We are very happy to have been able to secure a location that allows us to better serve all of our members in Monroeville and the surrounding communities.
Given the recent announcement(s) of the Styropek plant closure in 2024 in Monaca, we are relocating our Monaca Office. We finalized the details for a new location in the Township Marketplace Shopping Plaza, which is just a few short miles from our previous location. We anticipate construction for this office to be completed by late January or early February. In the meantime, we will service our Monaca members from our Cranberry Township Office or by using our many electronic services.
As always, we invite not only our Monaca and Monroeville area members, but ALL of our members to take advantage of our enhanced self-service products and services. These products allow you to bank whenever you want, wherever you want and however you want. This includes everything from payroll direct deposit, online banking including bill pay, e-statements, mobile banking which includes remote check deposit, tap and go Apple Pay and Google Pay and 90,000 ATMs nationwide. In addition, we offer CardTrac, which is our co-branded app that allows you to manage your USX FCU debit and credit cards. Just two examples of things you can do on CardTrac are: be notified anytime your debit or credit card is used and the ability to turn your cards on or off. A new feature just recently added to CardTrac now allows you to set travel notices for both debit and credit cards. You can now manage travel dates and destinations yourself on the app; no need to call and notify the credit union anymore!
In addition to our “traditional” banking products, please remember that the credit union also offers professional financial services for personalized retirement, insurance and investment strategies through USX Investment Services. Call Nathan Rodgers for a no-cost, no-obligation appointment at 724-779-4895 or toll free 888-219-3159 ext. 4895.
No matter how you decide to do your banking, USX FCU appreciates your business. If you have questions on any of our products and services, please visit an office, visit our website or give us a call.
As always, at USX Federal Credit Union, we are dedicated to continually enhancing our products and services to better serve you, our valued member-owners. Our goal is to provide you a seamless banking experience to improve and simplify your financial life.

More than half of the world’s population uses at least one social media platform. Users can post to Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat for all their followers to see. When a friend, family member, or influencer posts to social media, do you ever question whether they actually created the post? Would you trust them if they posted about an investment that helped them earn thousands of dollars? You should consider that they may actually be a cybercriminal who’s using social media hijacking to gain your trust and your money.
What Is Social Media Hijacking?
Social media hijacking is when a cybercriminal gains access to another user’s social media account. To hijack the account, cybercriminals often send the user an email with a phishing link that brings the user to a fake login page. When the user enters their login credentials, the cybercriminal steals the credentials to log in to the user’s account and change their password. Then, the cybercriminals have full control over the user’s account.
How Do Cybercriminals Use the Hijacked Account?
After the cybercriminals hijack the account, they can try to convince the user’s followers to invest money or participate in a giveaway by sending them direct messages or creating public posts. Because the followers believe the original user wrote the message or post, they are more likely to believe that the investment or giveaway is legitimate. For example, in a recent scam, cybercriminals hijacked users’ accounts and tried to convince them to send a video endorsing a Bitcoin scheme. In exchange for the video, the cybercriminals claim they will give the account back to the original user. Instead, the cybercriminals post the video to the user’s account to convince more followers to invest in the scam.
